Santa Fe Public Library Recognizes its Young Readers

The Library would like to recognize children who have read all summer long. A record 1,318 children participated in our Summer Reading Program “Dig into Reading” during June and July. They were rewarded with prizes, lots of fun programs, and a lucky few even went home with a new bicycle. But most important of all, they kept their minds and imaginations active this summer by reading regularly.

Reading is an important activity for children, especially during the summer. By reading during non-school days, they can prevent the “Summer Slide” which can take up to two months to catch up their reading skills once the school year begins.

“I am very proud of the high number of readers who have participated in the program, but the little moments of the summer reading program are just as important.  For instance, when you talk with individual children about what the best book they read this week, this month, or this summer.  The kids just buzz with excitement to tell you about the book that they currently love,” said Southside Branch children’s librarian Amy Barr.

The Library would like to thank the sponsors of our 2013 Summer Reading Program:
