The City of Santa Fe Arts Commission is accepting qualifications from ceramic
artists interested in participating in an international ceramics festival. The
Arts Commission has been invited by the Icheon Ceramics Festival to recommend
two to three artists to participate in an international festival promoting
ceramics. The festival will take place September 28 to October 20, 2013
(specific participation dates to be determined) in Seolbong Park, Icheon,
Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. The annual festival is one of the most important
ceramic events in Korea, providing a fairground of ceramics were artists and
customers can meet. As one of the biggest events in the ceramic field in Korea,
the festival has received no fewer than 160,000 visitors every year. Selected
artists will be provided a stand at the “Ceramics Salon” where they can sell
their work. In addition, selected artists will participate in a special workshop
to exchange ideas. Artists can make work, give talks, and/or lecture to students
of the local ceramic high school. Santa Fe artists will participate in workshops
the week of October 1-5, or October 8-12.
This
opportunity is open to all ceramic artists residing in northern New Mexico.
Artists must have the ability to communicate ideas in written, oral and public
formats as well as the capability to communicate and work with members of an
international community. A selection committee of Arts Commissioners and ceramic
experts will review the proposals and submit recommendations to the Festival
Committee. The Festival will provide invited artists with a stand to sell their
own pieces, seven nights’ hotel accommodation and meals, a small honorarium
(approximately $250), three complimentary copies of the exhibit catalogue, and a
common workshop. The artists chosen will be responsible for their airfare, all
incidental expenses, as well as the cost of shipping their work if necessary,
will be expenses. Those chosen to participate must have a valid U.S.
passport.
Interested
artists must submit a letter of interest, resume, artist’s statement, artistic
samples and references by the deadline. Submissions will not be returned; please
do not include original materials or samples. Submissions must be mailed or
