Books and Movies, Movies and Books

Movies create a demand for the books on which they are based. This fact seem to surprise each person who comes to the library for a book because they've seen or heard about the movie, only to discover that there is already a waiting list. But really you should not be surprised. Your fellow citizens collectively are literate, and many of them are heavy readers. :-)
       So what's around town right now that we have books for?

• Brokeback Mountain is from a short story by Annie Proulx. It is in both Close Range : Wyoming Stories and in Still Wild: Short Fiction of the American West, 1950 to the present
• Syriana is drawn from Bob Baer's See No Evil:The True Story of a Ground Soldier in the CIA's War on Terrorism
• C. S. Lewis, Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
• Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
• J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
• Scott Phillips, The Ice Harvest.
• Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha
• There is not a specific book for Good Night and Good Luck, but we have biographies of Edward R. Murrow, and lots of books about the McCarthy era, including a new title by Haynes Johnson, The Age of Anxiety : McCarthyism to Terrorism.
• Rent and The Producers were both stage plays. It doesn't look like we have either of them in print form.
