Juan y Los Primos Featured at Dia de Los Niños Library Celebrations



In celebration of Dia de Los Niños the Santa Fe Public Library is hosting Juan y Los Primos to perform at each branch. Geared to families and children, Los Primos’ repertoire includes songs of the Mariachi and Trio Romantico. Dia de Los Niños is a celebration everyday of children, families, and reading that culminates annually on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
This free program will be presented at all three Santa Fe Library branches. No registration is required.

Southside Library Hosts Book Sale April 28 and 29









The Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library are hosting a used book sale at the Southside Branch Library April 28-29. The branch is located at 6599 Jaguar Drive.



Hundreds of books of all types will be available for sale, and all books have been donated to the Friends. The sale will be open to the public and take place Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 29: 1:00-4:00 p.m. There are no members-only hours. The sale will have specially-priced and discounted books. Sunday is ‘bag day”, $3.00 a bag.



Funds from the sale are used by the Friends to purchase new books for the Library.

Call for Artists for Southside

cover of bookThe Southside Branch Library, at 6599 Jaguar Drive, is accepting applications from artists interested in displaying their work for one month. Applicants must live in the City of Santa Fe or Santa Fe County and be eligible for a Santa Fe Public Library card. Please pick up and return applications at the Southside Library reference desk. The Art Committee will meet with artists to select and schedule art displays to begin in August, 2012. Applicants should be prepared to present their work on May 24, 2012, starting at 10 a.m. in the café meeting room at Southside.

Good Health at the Library!

In addition to materials on health, nutrition, and exercise in the collections of the Santa Fe Public Library, the Southside Branch works directly with community organizations to promote a healthy population.

The Mobile Health Van makes regular stops at the Southside Branch and will be there again on Monday, May 21, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the parking lot. The Mobile Health Van provides free screening to Santa Fe County residents. No appointment is necessary.

WIC, Women, Infants, and Children, is a federal program that provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. WIC appointments are held at the Southside Branch in the Jeff & Michelle Branch Community Room on Mondays, May 7, 14, 21 and June 4, 11, 25 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Appointments can be made through the local WIC Office at 505-476-2602.

MYCD, Manage Your Chronic Disease, is coming to the Southside Branch in May. Free workshops will help people manage their chronic conditions and make life easier. MYCD meets every Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. May 9 through June 20. To register or get more information, please call Margaret Collins at 505-471-4711. Presbyterian is co-sponsoring the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program with the New Mexico Department of Health and Luna Community College Area Health Education Center.
