OneClickDigital Update

While there are still a couple of glitches in our OneClickDigital downloadable audiobooks system, many of you have been successfully using it. For the past two months over 400 audiobooks were downloaded and listened to. While there are still some issues if you're using a Mac, if you're using a Windows system we highly encourage you to log back in and try it out.

If it's still not working for you, please be sure to email support@oneclickdigital.com. The only way they're know what to fix is if you tell them what isn't working.

Since we're still a beta-testing site for this software, the Santa Fe Public Library is not paying for this product while Recorded Books brings it up to speed. Thank you for your patience throughout this transition.

More on OneClickDigital

Many of you have already signed up for an account with OneClickDigital and have had varying success with downloading audiobooks. OneClickDigital is still in beta, and they are aware of the issues you're having. Fortunately, we expect a fix for many of these issues to be working by next week!

In the meantime, you can use our catalog to search for downloadable audiobooks. If you go to Advanced Search and type the word oneclick in the first field, you can then search by author, subject, title, or keyword in the other fields. You can also find a full list of our downloadable audiobooks under the Media & Large Print link in the catalog menu.

"Downloading audiobooks has never been easier"

Our downloadable audiobooks are now available in an easier-to-use interface. We still have thousands of books for you to download and enjoy, and will be adding more every month. You will need to sign up for a new account on the OneClickDigital page, but will benefit from new features. If you have audiobooks downloaded right now, you may need to download them again from the new interface.

If you do run into problems, please be patient as we switch over services. There are still some bugs we're working out of the OneClickDigital system. As of today, July 20, the NetLibrary website, Media Center, and Download Manager will no longer be available to us. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

A Catchall of Downloads

A number of links have crossed my screen lately, many of them offering free or low-cost downloads of eBooks or eAudiobooks. Check them out, and expand your eXperience.

LibriVox offers free audiobooks in the public domain. The files are available in mp3 or ogg format, and there's also a weekly podcast. Feeling dramatic? You can volunteer to read!

Open Library allows you to borrow eBooks. If you're already a member of one of the 150+ participating libraries it's an online interlibrary loan, or as they call it: In-Library Lending. If not, don't fret: Open Library also has over a million free eBooks available.

A resource to keep an eye on is Byliner.com, a site for original writing from today's big authors. As of this writing it's in beta, but it's already offering downloads by Jon Krakauer, William T. Vollman, Jamie Malanowski, and Malcolm Gladwell. Also, the Byliner Blog is a great place to drop in, even if you're not actively downloading.

Don't forget: the Santa Fe Public Library subscribes to One Click Downloadable Audiobooks, and we also offer listings of Project Gutenberg eBooks in our catalog!

MP3 CD Audiobooks

The Santa Fe Public Library is starting a pilot project, and is now adding some Audio Books in MP3 format. MP3 (MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3) is a standard technology and format for compressing a sound sequence into a very small file, about one-twelfth the size of the original file, while preserving the original level of sound quality when it is played. For example, an unabridged MP3 audiobook fits onto one or two CDs, whereas the regular CD audiobooks can sometimes be as many as 10 discs.

The MP3 format has been around since 2001. Most NEW car stereos, CD players, boom boxes, PC CDROM drives, DVD players, etc. are MP3 compatible. However, if you try to play an MP3 disc in an older player it will not work. We will be placing bright yellow MP3 stickers onto the cases to alert you of the file format. Also, the call number will start with MP3 to make it easy to identify in the catalog.

The MP3 Audiobooks will be housed next to your branch's regular CD Audiobook collection, but not interfiled. Please be aware that the cases look like DVD cases – but the contents are Audiobook. At this time, our MP3 audiobook collection is small and in a test phase, so please check them out and let us know what you think of them.

Wishing you looked forward to your commute? Listen to an audiobook and you’ll wake up every morning wondering what will happen next in the story.

Going on a long car trip? Take an audiobook to make those long stretches bearable.

Looking to revive your workout routine? Listen to an audiobook while you whittle away the pounds.

Have a long summer reading list for school? Listen to the unabridged version of a book and you won’t miss a thing.

Audiobooks can be borrowed in CD format or downloaded from the library’s website. You can browse the library’s selections by clicking here.

Even More One-Click Information

Do you like using the One-Click Downloadable Audiobooks? Are you a little overwhelmed by the 2,100+ titles we have? There are a couple of ways you can locate the books you're looking for on the One-Click Netlibrary site itself.

If you're in the NetLibrary site and you click on "Home" in the upper left-hand corner, you'll see a screen like the following:



You can find variety of books by keyword, author, title, and subject by using the search box in the middle of the page.

On the right-hand menu, there's a link that says: "Browse by Subject". If you click on that, you're directed to the following list, where the Audiobooks are sorted by genre and age.



If you're a first-time user, make sure you go through the Library Catalog before heading to the NetLibrary site. If you have trouble downloading an audiobook, check out both our website and the NetLibrary Help pages. Also, check out the NetLibrary Online Demos. If you're still having trouble, call your local branch's reference desk for assistance.

One-Click Audio Questions -- Answered!

Now that we've had One-Click Audio downloadable books for about a month, we've encountered some questions from you, the patrons. So here are some answers!

• 10 books can be downloaded at a time
• Downloadables check out for 21 days
• Books can be renewed once
• The books cannot be "turned" in early
• You can still also check out 4 books-on-CD at the same time
• One-Click Audiobooks will not show up on your library record
• To see your One-Click checkouts, you need to go to the NetLibrary site
• If you are creating a new NetLibrary account from home, you need to first click on one of the NetLibrary links from the Catalog and login to your library account before being sent to the NetLibrary page
• The Library has over 2100 titles available for downloading
• Each month the Library gets 30 new titles

We've also discovered that Mac users need to do an extra step or two to make the downloads work. NetLibrary has an excellent help page that can guide you through the process.

While library staff are able to assist with guiding you through the sign-up or download process, we're not able to troubleshoot technical difficulties with your computer. Please check the NetLibrary Help pages if you encounter error messages and problems.

The Santa Fe Public Library is absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of One-Click Audio!

"What is One-Click Audio?" you might ask. It's a collection of audiobooks that can be downloaded to your home computer, iPod, or MP3 player. Just like checking out a CD audiobook from the library, these downloads are free!

We have over 2,000 titles, and get new books every month! The list of One-Click Audio titles can be found here. We also have them linked from our Media & Large Print listings. To download them, you'll need to create a free account on the One-Click (NetLibrary) site. The One-Click site also has fantasic Help Pages if you need technical assistance.

Also, these One-Click Audiobooks will be showing up in our general catalog. If you see the following icon, you know it's a One-Click!
