They will donate 2% of their CASH sales (so don't forget to bring cash) for the month to the Friends, so please be sure to go this month, and bring along your friends!

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas

            I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, look I know it sounds weird but it is really not. IWTEYP is a manga in which a sick girl whose pancreas is failing, meets an antisocial boy and create a great friendship. It made me emotional, hope it makes you emotional as well. :)

            Overall a good book and movie, both, very emotional and I also recommend watching Call Me by Your Name: Movie Soundtrack Explained online. The book and movie are about a summer fling between Elio and his parents’ summer guest. I must say, at first everything is okay, but then it hits you, it really does :( I really recommend both, they’ll change your life, I promise!

Against the sprawling backdrop of the Cold War, The Kremlinologist revisits some of the twentieth century’s greatest conflicts as seen through the eyes of its hardest working diplomat, Llewellyn E Thompson. From the wilds of the American West to the inner sanctums of the White House and the Kremlin, Thompson became an important advisor to presidents and a key participant in major global events, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. Thompson’s daughters Jenny and Sherry Thompson skillfully and thoroughly document his life as an accomplished career diplomat. In vigorous prose, they describe how Thompson joined the Foreign Service both to feed his desire for adventure and from a deep sense of duty. They also detail the crucial role he played as a negotiator unafraid of compromise. Known in the State Department as "Mr. Tightlips," Thompson was the epitome of discretion. Insights & Sounds: Walt Whitman’s America at the Southside Branch Library, August 1

Dr. Bruce Noll, a nationally-recognized expert on the poetry of Walt Whitman, currently teaches in the Department of Educational Leadership and Organizational Learning in the College of Education at the University of New Mexico. With appearances throughout North America to his credit, Dr. Noll will recite Walt Whitman poetry in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the poet’s birth. A quartet of singers from the Santa Fe Desert Chorale will perform selections from the concert program “The long-enduring pensive moons”: A Bicentenary Celebration of Walt Whitman and Other Esteemed American Poets.

New and expecting parents and families alike joined together for a fun Saturday morning with their kids, to learn about all the amazing community resources Santa Fe has to offer. Many organizations came from around the county, whose mission is to support families and help children succeed.  To name a few, the Randall Davey Audubon Center bird sanctuary was present to encourage children and families to get out and engage with nature. Fathers New Mexico was there, a non-profit helping to support healthy fatherhood. And The Food Depot, who helps ensure that no one goes hungry, had a booth to provide information, as did many more. With over 30 vendors present, there was someone to represent every kind of support a family could need to help their child succeed.  While parents browsed the booths, children were encouraged to participate on stage in the live and amazing performance by Teatro Paraguas.

Volunteer Party at the Main Library

This past Monday, staff and volunteers met for a Mad Hatter's High Tea Party at the Main Library to show our appreciation for our volunteers! These volunteers help our library run smoothly and raise much needed funds for library materials and programs. This National Library Week we'd like to recognize all of our volunteers with the Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library and beyond for helping us to serve our community.

We also thank El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe and Pandemonium Productions for loaning out their wonderful Alice in Wonderland panels to decorate the party! They really helped make the party look amazing!
