Mayor
Gonzales said, “El Mercado Del Sur is an important investment in equity for our
Southside, one we’re proud to be a part of. Every Santa Fean, no matter what
neighborhood they’re in, should have access to affordable and fresh food grown
and the ability to support jobs and livelihoods at our own local farms, and
this new market makes that a reality.”
“We’re
very excited about our new location and becoming a part of the neighborhood,”
said Lani Ersfeld, director of El Mercado Del Sur. “The grand opening is just
the beginning. In addition to all of the great produce that will be for sale at
the market, throughout the summer we’ll be providing health screenings, food
demonstrations and samples, live music and a host of other great things.”
The
opening celebration will have activities for kids, including water games and a
Bounce House, traditional dance performances by Los Niños de Santa Fe, a “Hands
for Land” art workshop and activity led by the Creative Activist Network, and
much more.
El
Mercado Del Sur will be open every Tuesday from 3:00-6:00PM until September 26.
WIC and EBT are accepted at the market by qualifying vendors, and EBT
transactions with be matched, doubling their purchase power, thanks to the
Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute and the New Mexico Farmers Marketing
Association.
