Molas have their origin in body painting. Only after colonization by the Spanish and contact with missionaries did the indigenous people of Panama and Columbia, the Kuna, start to transfer their traditional geometric designs onto fabric.
"Mola" is the Kuna word for "shirt" or "clothing".
Children ages 5-12, please join us
at the Main Library on
Friday, October 5th at 2:00 pm to make
paper mola designs in celebration of
National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Various Friday Afternoon Art* programs will be provided at the Main Library
this fall from October 5th until December 14th (excluding Friday November 23rd).
