September 15 to October 15 is designated Hispanic Heritage Month. What a perfect time to explore some of the achievements of people who helped create New Mexico and celebrate its diversity. Almost every New Mexican native has a connection to the beginning of the state and even before New Mexico was a state. The Library has two staff people who trace their families back to Territorial Governors. Others trace their families back to the first Spanish expeditions into this area.
Take time this month to look up Nina Otero Warren, La Doctora Maria Dolores Gonzales, Donaciano Vigil, Dona Dolores “Lola” Chavez and others who helped create New Mexico and worked to make it a better place.
The Main Library is celebrating with displays of books, CDs, and DVDs for adults in the foyer, and a beautiful display of children's materials in the Children's Department. All display materials may be borrowed.
