Zozobra Road Closures and Detour Routes
Passes will not be issued to area residents or Zozobra party attendees.
Fiesta de Santa Fe is less than three weeks away! The weekend festivities begin with the very popular burning of Will Shuster’s Zozobra, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe, on September 6 at dusk at Fort Marcy Park. Due to the enormous number of pedestrians, traffic will be tightly controlled by the Santa Fe Police Department. Starting in the afternoon, police officers will be patrolling along Paseo de Peralta at the intersections of Old Taos Highway and Washington Avenue / Bishops Lodge Road.
Area roads will be closed at 5:00 p.m. or earlier, depending on pedestrian volume. After the roads are closed, NO motor vehicles will be allowed north of Paseo de Peralta or south of Murales Road on either Old Taos Highway or Bishops Lodge Road. Rosario Street between Griffin and Old Taos Highway will also be closed to motor vehicles.
Zozobra party hosts are encouraged to ask their guests to make every effort to arrive before 4:30 p.m., as passes will not be issued this year. After the roads north of Paseo de Peralta on Bishop’s Lodge Road and Old Taos Highway are closed, the only way in will be on-foot.
Clearly marked detour routes are as follows:
Motorists driving south on Bishops Lodge Road from the Encantado area will be detoured at Valley Drive to Vallecita Drive to Gonzales Road to Hyde Park Road.
Motorists driving south on Old Taos Highway from the Encantado area will be detoured at Rendon Road to Paseo de la Cuma to Old Taos Highway to Paseo de Peralta.
