City Marks Veterans Day with Parade Sunday, Holiday Closures Monday


This Veterans Day marks the 100th Anniversary of the 1918 Armistice that was the unofficial end to World War I. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th because of the Armistice, which was enacted in the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

The City will mark the holiday with the annual Veterans Day parade on Sunday, starting at 10:00am and progressing from Ft. Marcy down Bishop’s Lodge and Washington to the Plaza. A ceremony will follow at the Bataan Memorial. (Route map attached)

On Monday, all administrative offices, city libraries, the Municipal Court, and recreation centers will be closed. Environmental Services Division will have regular scheduled collection for commercial and residential recycling and solid waste. Residential customers will need to have their recycling and solid waste placed at curbside by 8:00 a.m.

Santa Fe Trails, Santa Fe Pick-Up Shuttle and Santa Fe Ride services will operate on a Saturday Service Schedule, with one exception: To facilitate transit service to and from the Santa Fe Place Mall, NM 599 Rail Runner Station, Santa Fe Community College, the Academy for Technology and the Classics and other institutions and businesses who are not closed, Santa Fe Trails will operate the Route 22 on its regular weekday schedule on this day.

REMINDER: VETERANS RIDE FOR FREE YEAR ROUND
In recognition of all Veterans, with Resolution 2015-99 the City Council authorized the Transit Division to develop a program to provide FREE rides on Santa Fe Trails bus system and Santa Fe Ride paratransit program for United States Veterans year round.

To obtain free rides, Veterans need to show the driver one of the following:
·         Veterans Affair ID Card
·         DD214 with Photo ID
·         Driver’s License with Veteran Status
·         Rio Metro Freedom Pass
·         Santa Fe Trails Veterans ID Card
A Santa Fe Trails Veteran ID Card can be obtained by visiting the Santa Fe Trails Administrative Offices at 2931 Rufina Street and showing one of the above documents listed above.

All facilities will re-open for regular hours on Tuesday.
