City Sets Up Series of Direct Email Communications Options for Residents

Starting this winter, the City of Santa Fe will be increasing its emphasis on email to communicate directly with residents on a range of topics. We’re starting by asking residents to sign-up online to be a part of one or more email networks of their choice.

When you sign up for a list, we’ll start reaching out to you by email—not too much, we promise not to start spamming your inbox—just enough to keep you up-to-date on the topics of your choice.

Email options will include information from the City regarding City Hall happenings, City-sponsored community events, Council District specific information, and more. The full list is below.  To register please visit https://www.santafenm.gov/community_engagement.

As the City Council and the Mayor work to prioritize making the City the most user-friendly in the country, they are improving the way the City engages with residents and neighborhoods. The Santa Fe email network is a continuation of that effort, which has included Meet the Mayor events, Council on Your Corner meetings, the City Manager’s weekly newsletter, and the establishment of the Constituent and Council Services Office.

Mayor Webber said, “We take our relationship with Santa Fe residents and neighborhoods very seriously. Communicating directly with our residents by email is a clear and convenient way to be transparent and improve communication as we build better relationships with our community.”

City Manager Erik Litzenberg said, “Our goal is to be the most user-friendly City government we can be, and this is one more in a series of steps we’re taking in our commitment to increased public awareness and engagement.” 

“This is the first step in establishing a new communication path with our constituents. There’s so much happening at City Hall, it can be hard to keep track. So we are building a tool to help our residents stay up-to-date on everything they want to know about their City government,” said Kristine Mihelcic, Constituent and Council Services Director.  

Change in Interlibrary Loan Service for December 2018

Due to staff shortages, we will not accept new Interlibrary Loan requests during the month of December.  We will process all requests made in November and will make them available to patrons in December.  ILL books due in December must be returned by their due dates.

Please note that starting in January, each patron may submit a maximum of 3 Interlibrary Loan requests per month. We apologize for the inconvenience and will begin accepting Interlibrary Loan requests again in January 2019.

Seeking Candidates for the Santa Fe Public Library Board

The Santa Fe Public Library is seeking candidates for the Library Board. Ideal candidates are actively involved in our community with an open mind to a 21^st Century library system in Santa Fe. We are seeking potential Library Board candidates with skills in any of the following: technology, new media, and computer literacy; youth advocacy; knowledge of local government; urban planning; or community development.

There is one City position available to applicants that live within the Santa Fe city limits. Library Board members serve for three years without compensation. 

City members are appointed by the Mayor to represent the residents of Santa Fe. The seven member Library Board was created as an advisory board to the City Council and is charged with working with the Library Administration to provide advice on policies such as the use of the library, book selection, acceptance of gifts and bequests, management and operation, and other appropriate matters. The Library Board meets monthly.

The Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library will hold their Holiday Book Sale in the Community Room at the Main Library on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

We will be selling gift quality books, holiday-themed CDs and DVDs and more! The sale is open to the public all day, no members-only hours.

Big Adventure Comics Hosts Local Comics Creators for Sale and Presentations November 17

Big Adventure Comics in Santa Fe presents Local Comic Creators At Your Local Comic Shop on Saturday, November 17, 1:00-4:00. New Mexico-based comic writers and artists, and members of 7000 BC, the Northern New Mexico comic creators nonprofit, will have their creator-owned books for sale. At 2:00, cartoonist and educator Alec Longstreth will discuss his graphic novel Basewood, and at 2:30 writer and artist Turner Mark-Jacobs will present his process for creating his watercolor art.

As part the afternoon’s talks, Alec says, “I'll share story outlines, early character designs, and show examples of my cartooning process including pencils and inks,” and Turner says, “I’ll have sketches and finished art as well as tools to show how I work.” All participants in Local Comic Creators At Your Local Comic Shop will be have their work for sale and be available throughout the afternoon to discuss it.

Kevin Drennan, owner of Big Adventure comics, says “we're fortunate to have such a diverse range of comics-making talent locally and we're happy to be able to give them this opportunity to showcase their hard work."

City Marks Veterans Day with Parade Sunday, Holiday Closures Monday

This Veterans Day marks the 100^th Anniversary of the 1918 Armistice that was the unofficial end to World War I. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11^th because of the Armistice, which was enacted in the 11^th hour on the 11^th day of the 11^th month.

The City will mark the holiday with the annual Veterans Day parade on Sunday, starting at 10:00am and progressing from Ft. Marcy down Bishop’s Lodge and Washington to the Plaza. A ceremony will follow at the Bataan Memorial. (Route map attached)

On Monday, all administrative offices, city libraries, the Municipal Court, and recreation centers will be closed. Environmental Services Division will have regular scheduled collection for commercial and residential recycling and solid waste. Residential customers will need to have their recycling and solid waste placed at curbside by 8:00 a.m.

Santa Fe Trails, Santa Fe Pick-Up Shuttle and Santa Fe Ride services will operate on a Saturday Service Schedule, with one exception: To facilitate transit service to and from the Santa Fe Place Mall, NM 599 Rail Runner Station, Santa Fe Community College, the Academy for Technology and the Classics and other institutions and businesses who are not closed, Santa Fe Trails will operate the Route 22 on its regular weekday schedule on this day.

REMINDER: VETERANS RIDE FOR FREE YEAR ROUND

In recognition of all Veterans, with Resolution 2015-99 the City Council authorized the Transit Division to develop a program to provide FREE rides on Santa Fe Trails bus system and Santa Fe Ride paratransit program for United States Veterans year round.

To obtain free rides, Veterans need to show the driver one of the following:

·         Veterans Affair ID Card

·         DD214 with Photo ID

·         Driver’s License with Veteran Status

·         Rio Metro Freedom Pass

·         Santa Fe Trails Veterans ID Card

A Santa Fe Trails Veteran ID Card can be obtained by visiting the Santa Fe Trails Administrative Offices at 2931 Rufina Street and showing one of the above documents listed above.

All facilities will re-open for regular hours on Tuesday.

ALL RIDES ON SANTA FE TRAILS BUS ROUTES AND SANTA FE RIDE VEHICLES ARE FREE ON GENERAL ELECTION DAY, TUESDAY NOVEMBER 6, 2018

With Resolution 2014-79 the Santa Fe City Council authorized the Transit Division to provide FREE rides on all Santa Fe Trails Bus Routes and Santa Fe Ride Vehicles for all Santa Fe Municipal Elections and Santa Fe County Primary and General Elections.  Tuesday November 6, 2018 is a General Election Day.

Santa Fe Trails Bus and Santa Fe Pick-up services have routes and stops that are no more than a half mile (10 minute walk) from all the Voting Convenience Centers within its service area.  See the table below and the attached graphics for more details.  All are encouraged to consider taking advantage of the FREE bus service to go vote or use it as an opportunity to try Santa Fe’s Public Transportation System.
