In recent years, New Mexico has seen a huge increase in the number of films and television shows that have helped bring a lot of revenue into the state.  Feature films such as 'Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot', where New Mexico 'stars' as Afghanistan and the very successful new Western, 'Hostiles', and of course 'Breaking Bad' have helped New Mexico become "Tamalewood".  

But how about in years past? Did the state see film productions prior to the current incentive program?  Definitely so, and New Mexico film historian/author, Jeff Berg, whose book 'New Mexico Filmmaking (Arcadia Press, 2015) covers the subject in great detail, will be at the Santa Fe Public Library’s Main Library (145 Washington Ave.) on Saturday, June 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room to share a touch of the state's film history with you.

Using film clips from movies made in and around Santa Fe, including 1936's 'Texas Rangers', one of the first New Mexico made movies to be Oscar nominated, 'Fancy Pants', which stars Bob Hope in his only New Mexico 'appearance', and the unforgettable 'Lust in the Dust', with Tab Hunter and Divine, this FREE presentation will last about 90 minutes and includes live narration and is enhanced by audience participation. Afterwards, check out the Library’s display of DVDs filmed in New Mexico that you can check out and bring home with your library card!
